FBE coating is an epoxy based powder coating that is widely used to provide corrosion protection to steel pipes and fittings used in pipeline construction and a wide variety of piping connections, valves and on concrete reinforcing bars (rebar).

Pretreated metal components are heated up and dipped into a fluidised bed of FBE, the powder particles then melt onto the metalwork and once cured, form a smooth continuous coating. Post curing, further heating will not melt the coating and thus it is known as a ‘thermoset’ coating. Both 3M™ Scothkote and AkzoNobel Resicoat™ are high quality epoxy resin based coatings, utilised for the corrosion protection of components manufactured from cast iron or steel. They have excellent resistance to corrosive soils, hydrocarbons, harsh chemicals and sea water.

The epoxy coatings are applied in one layer on a preheated surface by fluidised bed application. The resultant thermoset epoxy has a high mechanical resistance with excellent electrical insulation properties.

The outstanding adhesion of the epoxy powders to the metal substrate provides long term protection of the coated component. It ensures a reliable conservation for the function and value of the parts for the water and gas distribution network.

Drinking water approvals are available to confirm the coatings suitability as a hygienic and environmental friendly coating.
